El Sobrante Home Targeted in Series of Drive-By Shootings

EL SOBRANTE (CBS SF ) — Head over to Hilltop Drive in El Sobrante and this strange message jumps out at you: “Stop shooting. Nobody is here.”

Neighbors, it turns out, put up this homemade sign after a series of drive-by shootings at the house.

Apparently, the house has been targeted every few nights since Christmas and is now riddled with more than two dozen bullet holes, the result of five drivebys so far.

On Sunday night, even after the sign went up, the situation escalated. A car parked in front of the house was blown up.

Contra Costa County fire officials said the car fire was incendiary, meaning it wasn’t an accident and fire officials are investigating the possibility of arson.

Sheriff investigators said a man who lived in the house — the intended victim — has since moved away.

Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Sean Yates said he believes the targeted individual was staying at the home, but that the house was actually rented by the mother of the target’s girlfriend.

“So he was actually probably not on the lease but he was staying in the home. The house is now vacant. There is nobody there,” Yates said.

Investigators said the drive-by shootings and the explosion may be part of a feud between the attackers and the intended victim, but that so far nobody has gotten hurt and no arrests have been made.

But like the sign says, neighbors just want the violence to end.

El Sobrante resident Ron Stout has a message for the shooter: “Just stop, please. The people are gone. Leave us alone. Please.”
